Devotees throng Bara Ganesh Temple and other temples in Kashi on Sankashti Chaturthi

In the religious city of Kashi, a large crowd of devotees thronged the Bara Ganesh Temple in Lohatiya and other temples on Tuesday to mark Sankashti Chaturthi, the fourth day of the dark fortnight of the Magh month, for darshan and worship.

Devotees offered yellow fruits, flowers, sweets, and clothes to Lord Ganesha.

Women observing the Sankashti Chaturthi fast to seek blessings for their children and their long life also visited the temple. A long queue of devotees was seen stretching from DAV College Road to the Bara Ganesh Temple.

This Chaturthi of the Magh month is also known as Sankat Chauth, Vakratundi Chaturthi, and Tilkuta Chauth. It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha on Sankashti Chaturthi fulfils all wishes.

Meanwhile, cloth bags were distributed at the Bara Ganesh Temple as part of an initiative to promote environmental protection. On Sankashti Chaturthi, the Namami Gange programme also spread awareness about environmental conservation at the temple.

Giving the message, “Stop polythene, make Kashi and the Ganga beautiful and clean,” Namami Gange volunteers distributed cloth bags to devotees at the ancient Bara Ganesh Temple in Kashi to reduce single-use plastic pollution.

Rajesh Shukla, convener of the Namami Gange Kashi region and sanitation brand ambassador of the Municipal Corporation, appealed to devotees to use cloth bags for offerings and other items and avoid single-use plastics to help protect the environment and ensure clean surroundings and safe water sources.
